Jackfruit/Chakka Payasam
Jackfruit/Chakka Payasam or chakka pradhaman has the aroma and taste of Kerala Tasteville’s Chakka varati/jackfruit pulp , coupled with the delicious flavour of coconut milk. This recipe can be made using homemade coconut milk or packaged coconut milk.

Ingredients:
Water – 1 litre
Kerala Tasteville’s Chakka varati – 3/4th qty of the packet
For Coconut milk –1 big coconut (Check coconut milk preparation below)
Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
Ghee – 1tbsp
Cashews, raisins and small pieces of coconut for garnishing
Coconut Milk Preparation:
Note – Keep all three portions of coconut milk in separate containers.
1st coconut milk/thick coconut milk
Grate coconut of 1 big coconut, put it in blender without water and extract the milk using muslin cloth.
2nd coconut milk
Blend the same grated coconut with ½ glass water and extract the milk.
3rd coconut milk/thin coconut milk
Blend the coconut extract with 1 glass of water and extract the milk till the coconut mixture becomes completely dry.
Method:
- In a heavy bottomed plan, add 1 litre of water. When the water comes to a boil, add Kerala Tasteville’s chakka varati and continue to stir until the paste softens and the mixture becomes slightly thick.
- Add the 3rdcoconut milk and let it boil for 5 mins.
- Add the 2ndmilk and allow it to come to a boil and switch off the flame.
- Add the 1stcoconut milk and cardamom powder and stir well.
- Roast cashews, raisins and small pieces of coconut in oil and garnish the payasam.
- If using store bought coconut milk, dilute a portion of milk with water. Follow step 1 and step 2 and switch off the flame. Continue from steps 4 using the remaining thick coconut milk from the packet.
Serve this payasam warm or chilled, tastes great either ways.
